Prior to his entrepreneurial endeavors, Liu-Yue worked as an Executive Associate at M&T Bank in the Structured Real Estate Finance Group where he worked with senior management on multiple bank-wide risk management projects. He also had a dual role as a commercial banker advising UHNWIs and family offices on investments, credit, and banking needs while focused on residential CRE, infrastructure development, and affordable housing projects. Prior to M&T, he held a number of positions in Latin American equities and bonds investment groups at SBC Warburg Dillon Read (Swiss Bank), OFFITBANK (the wealth management division of Wachovia Bank), and in small cap equities at Steinberg Priest Capital Management (family office). Liu-Yue has an MBA specializing in investment management and strategy from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Marketing from Stern School of Business at NYU. He also completed graduate studies in international management at the University of Oxford, Trinity College.

With that in mind, eVestment, the global leader in institutional investor data and analytics, mined its database to find the United States and global cities with the biggest concentrations of hedge funds.

In the United States, the cities where the most hedge funds are based are:

1.       New York

2.       Chicago

3.       Boston

4.       San Francisco

5.       Greenwich, Conn.

6.       Los Angeles

7.       Denver

8.       Miami

9.       Philadelphia

10.     Princeton, N.J.

Globally, the top cities where hedge funds are based are:

1.       New York

2.       London

3.       Chicago

4.       Boston

5.       Hong Kong

6.       Toronto

7.       San Francisco

8.       Greenwich, Conn.

9.       Los Angeles

10.     Singapore

eVestment also looked at the geographic distribution of hedge fund launches going back to 2009. In 2015, London (No. 1), New York (No. 2), Boston (No. 3), Chicago (No. 4) and Hong Kong (No. 5) held the top five spots for hedge fund launches. These five cities, in slightly different orders, dominated hedge fund launches 2014 as well. In previous years, cities like Toronto, Canada; Greenwich, Conn.; and San Francisco also cracked the top 5.
