Macro Investing has long been the dominant investing strategy in the emerging markets world.  But as the developed world face severe macro and long term structural issues, the western world may be considered the new emerging markets.  During times of crisis whether war or economic, macro forces tend to dominate all other investment strategies.  This has become especially apparent over the past few years as the financial crisis and the EU sovereign debt crisis have caused all asset classes to move together in extreme positive correlation.  Therefore in order to invest successfully in this economic climate it has become increasingly important to also understand the macro economics, politics, and regulations in the countries you invest in.

In the ‘COUNTRIES’ section you will find a comprehensive list of 260 individual country and regional profiles.   Oxstone Capital Management is providing this free resource for the benefit of our community to assist investors in evaluating prospective investments using the top-down approach.

The following country/regional profiles will provide useful information on economic statistics such as gdp growth, purchasing power parity, public debt to gdp, inflation rates, bank lending rates, main industries, energy consumption or production, current account balance, main export partners, and foreign currency reserves.  It will also provide statistics on the individual country infrastructure including telephone, media, internet usage, airport, railways, roadways, ports and terminals.

In addition, we are also providing useful country comparisons/global rankings based on the same key macroeconomic, socioeconomic, geographic, and other statistical metrics.

Over the past three years, global investors are becoming more aware of the importance of macro themes and big picture thinking.  It is becoming increasingly important to not only select the right company and sector, but also the right country/region, and macro environment.

Good luck investing!

Cheers,

Liu-Yue (Louie) Lam
